As a journalist, you have been commissioned by the magazine to write a persuasive article on the Old Ground Hotel.

From the agricultural history to the mad folk music - there is plenty to do in Ireland. Ireland is a place to explore, discover and relax. It offers the thrilling discovery of traditional Irish music, as well as the chance to have a peaceful pint of Guinness over local public bars. The Old Ground Hotel is the perfect destination to accommodate you for these adventures.

The Old Ground Hotel - a slice of heaven. If you want a place to relax after a day out in Ireland, here is the place to stay. You may want to relax with a steaming hot bubble bath in one of the hotel’s ensuite bathrooms and be provided with the warm comfort of cotton towels for when you’re finished. Oh, and don’t forget the cotton bed sheets! This was something I was most pleased to be accommodated with when I checked in, in hope for a warm comfortable sleep - The Old Ground Hotel delivered their claim of service.

Whilst the hotel holds a historical element, it still holds the modern comforts of night time television after a long day out exploring the city. So get tucked in to your cotton sheets and flick through the channels whilst enjoying a nice cup of tea from the provided teapot that you will find on your night stand.

When you’re away on a holiday, food is always key to the enjoyment of your trip. With the food in The Old Ground Hotel, this is something you do not have to worry about. It is superb! Whilst the hotel still makes a claim to its Irish heritage, it provides the fantastic food of other cultures. The menu is French and offers a great selection of courses, so take your pick! In this place, you will feel like royalty as staff accommodate you with all that you want and need.

If you are a historical explorer this hotel is a perfect place to discover Irish heritage. You will be able to see from the portraits of aristocrats that this place has a cultural and historical element about it, which any member of staff will be happy to inform you about.

The Old Ground Hotel really is a palace in the country. The staff are polite, helpful and well presented. The rooms are well decorated, accommodated and comfortable. The food is tasty, memorable and beautiful. The hotel itself is truly exquisite, don’t hold back - visit The Old Ground Hotel.

Text A, B and C all share the same theme of family/parents. Text A is a spoken transcript, which appears to be a speech or presentation, used to inform the audience listening in the text. However, text B is a written novel used to entertain a female audience interested in romance. Text C, on the other hand, is an autobiographical novel used to inform or entertain fans of Laurie Lee.

Text B uses a lexical field surrounding different cultures, such as “my mother was from the mainland. That makes me only half an islander”. This explains Madeline’s cultured roots and adds an ambiguous element to her family, which reinforces the purpose to entertain the audience. This is similarly seen in text A as “ma mum’s family were originally from Lancashire” and “my dad is originally from Jamaica”. The use of proper nouns, such as “Lancashire” and “Jamaica”, establish the characters cultured family roots, which also adds ambiguity and interest into the informative purpose towards the audience.

Additionally, text B uses a lexical field surrounding romance as she was “a romantic who fell out of love with Le Devlin almost as quickly as she did with my father‘s bleak good looks”. This ironic statement masculinises Madeline’s Mother and feminises the male character in the text, which is seen as “my father favoured romantic names”.
