Chosen soundtrack for thriller

Another chosen artist for our thriller soundtrack is a local alternative acoustic artist called ‘Elliott Islington’ – his music shows a broad sense of emotion through his powerful, but original voice. Influences from ‘Elliott Smith’, ‘Death Cab for Cutie’ and ‘Gregory and the Hawk’ show that this artist specialises in the alternative emotional genre, fitting the theme of our thriller. Elliott Islington’s raw moving sound will bring out the emotion of our villain in the thriller as we play this with a voice over of the villains narrative.

We have chosen the track ‘Hospitals’ because it brings across a dark sound to fit the mood of our thriller. This is shown through the lyrics describing a building on fire with people trapped inside – our character may be able to relate to this as mentally he may feel trapped.

The idea of calm acoustic music over a thrilling situation was inspired from ‘Good Will Hunting’, whereby many Elliott Smith tracks are used over aggressive or hectic situations as a contrasting idea to create disorientation.

However, I have recently discovered a well produced artist with a less raw sound but an effective emotional feel. Sam Rodwell, an artist from Norfolk, specialises in many different genres, mainly fitting the alternative scene. You are able to find his music on http://www.myspace.com/samrodwell. Lost Sea is our first choice of song by him.

  1. Good. Can you reference other thrillers and how your research has influenced your choice?
